Before grouting the tile joint, ensure the tile adhesive has set and dried, and that the tiles are firmly bonded to the substrate

Under normal circumstances, standard set adhesive should be left for 24 hours and rapid set adhesive 3 hours before grouting commences.

Ensure the tile joints are clean, free of dust and other contaminants

Excess adhesive should be removed from the joints while still fresh.

WARNING: Coloured grouts can cause scratching or surface discolouration to certain types of tiles. We recommend testing the grout on a spare tile before grouting the tiled area. Where necessary, apply a protective treatment to the surface to ensure the grout does not penetrate the porous surface of the tiles. Avoid covering the tile in grout and work the grout into the joint covering as little of the tile as possible.

It is recommended to use a low speed mechanical mixer

Gradually add Thompson's Wide Joint Floor Grout to clean water in a clean mixing vessel and mix thoroughly until a smooth, creamy, consistent mortar is achieved

After mixing, allow the mix to stand for 2-3 minutes and briefly re-stir before use, add more powder at this stage if required

As an approximate guide for powder to water ratio, 5kg of powder requires 800ml of water

Once mixed, the grout remains workable for approximately 30 minutes at 20⁰C, however this time will be extended by lower temperatures and shortened by higher temperatures

Do not add water after initial mixing as this will weaken the mix and could lead to cracking. It may also cause discolouration of the grout

Using a rubber squeegee or a rubber float, work the mixed grout thoroughly into the joints ensuring they are completely filled

Excess grout should be removed as work proceeds by moving the rubber float diagonally across the tiles to prevent removal of grout within the joints

For a neater finish, smooth surfaces with a suitable round headed tool of suitable size and shape

Residue left on the surface of the tile can be removed by wiping off with a damp cloth or sponge approximately 20-40 minutes after application

Do not use excess water during mixing or washing down as this can cause staining or efflourescence on the surface of the grout

Any dry film can be removed by polishing off with a clean, dry cloth once the grout has hardened in the joint

All materials used during application such as tools and cloths must be clean and free from contaminants likely to cause staining of the grout

Clean tools immediately after use with clean water

Thompson's Wide Joint Floor Grout will be ready for foot traffic after approxiomately 3 hours in ideal conditions.

Setting time and strength development of the grout will vary depending on temperature; it will be slowed by cooler temperatures and accelerated by higher temperatures

Do not use below 5⁰C
